Gluten-free shopping in Milford: what’s actually safe to buy

“As a person extremely allergic to wheat, I cannot express my gratitude for BetterWorld enough.” That’s a recent review from a regular customer, and it’s the kind of line that means more coming from someone with a real allergy than from a marketing department. If you’ve got a wheat allergy or celiac disease, you already know the difference between “gluten-free friendly” and a shop that actually gets it right.

What we stock

A dedicated gluten-free bakery section — not just a couple of items tucked in with everything else, but a real range: bread, baked goods, and pantry staples made without wheat, rye, or barley. Alongside that, the wider health food side of the store carries gluten-free spices, GF pantry staples, and snack items people actually enjoy.

The honest caveat

We’re a shop, not a certified gluten-free facility. We maintain a celiac-safe space, with separate utensils for GF items and well trained staff. We do also stock products with gluten in it though, so if you have celiac disease rather than a wheat sensitivity, cross-contact is a real question to ask us about specific products, not assume away. We’d rather you ask at the counter than guess so we can keep you safe.

Why it matters more here than at a big chain

A small shop can actually know its own shelves. If you ask what’s safe, someone who stocked it that morning can usually tell you, rather than reading you the same allergen card every big retailer prints. That’s the whole advantage of shopping somewhere small for a dietary restriction — the person behind the counter usually knows more than the label.

Come see what’s in the pastry case

We’re at 320-322 Broad Street, open 8am to 6pm every day. The gluten-free bakery section is on the cafe side of the store.
